type ship of a pair of identically constructed cargo ships of Sietas type 88a (German ice class ? - in comparison with the standard type 88 higher dimensions and capacities, 2 welded decks) - during the 1st weekend of August 2007, on the way from Lübeck to Humberside, the wheat loaded >Jork< collided with the gas platform >Viking Echo< about 40 miles north-easterly of Cromer (Norfolk). After water inleakage in the hold the wheat swelled so heavily, that the hull demolished and the ship sank (August 5th) - total loss -. The crew was rescued in time and the Captain arrested due to a positive alcohol test. |
