Location Hamburg Port, near the >Altona (Fischmarkt)< pier
Comment view on the "Altonaer Fischauktionshalle". The fish auction hall in Hamburg-Altona was built in 1895-1896 in the then Prussian Altona at the newly built fishing port on the Elbe, to allow auction, trading and shipping of fish landed there. In addition, the building served the storage and repair of fishing equipment and the distribution of ice. Since its restoration in 1984 the hall is used as a venue for events. Also since 1984 the building based on structural steel work infilled with brick is a historical monument to demonstrate the importance of fish trade of the formerly rival cities of Hamburg and Altona.
