| Comment | view from the Town Hall Square "Ratslaukums" southward on the House of the Blackheads "Melngalvju nams", one of the most beautiful buildings in Riga. The "Brotherhood of Blackheads" was a guild for unmarried German merchants with seats, amongst others, in Reval (Tallinn) as well as in Riga. Today the guild still exists with current seat in Bremen, Germany. The name is based on their always dark-skinned shown patron "St. Mauricius". |
