back in Visby - view through the park "Almedalen" eastward on the western city wall. Infront of the Visby Cathedral of St. Mary "Visby S:ta Maria domkyrka" you can see two tower ruins: the left one belongs to the church of St. Drotten "S:t Drottens" (built in the 13th century, abandoned in the 16th century), the right one to St. Lawrence (also St. Lars) "S:t Lars" (built in the 12th century, abandoned in the 16th century). Because both churches stood side by side, they were also called "the Sister churches". |
