located just to the southwest you will find the ruins of the "Donegal Abbey" - excerpt from Wikipedia: The Donegal Monastery was founded in 1474 as a house of the reformed Franciscans. The Abbey is located just south of the center of "Donegal Town" near the harbor directly on the shore of "Donegal Bay". The Abbey buildings were also used after the Reformation until 1601. The monastic community continues to this day with its headquarters in "Rossnowlagh" a little further south, however, the original facility has since fallen into disrepair. |
